I tune into several podcasts on a weekly basis during my commutes, down time, while cooking, and traveling. They have become a staple method of entertainment to keep up with pop-cultural touch tones, to hear in-depth interviews, and learn about subjects that interest me. There are so many podcasts out there, similar to the “This week in Tech Podcast” that you are bound to find one that you can enjoy. Perhaps some people could consider visiting Likewise for other podcast recommendations. Everyone will find something that interests them, so be sure to do some research and see what other people are listening to. Now, while I stay faithful to the podcasts on my previous round-up, here are a few podcasts I’ve added to the list since then.
How I Built This – Learning the stories of successful business owners may sound like dry subject matter for a podcast, but it really isn’t. Many of the entrepreneurs featured faced adversity, made mistakes, and beat odds to become the successes we know them as today. When you’re in need of some inspiration to go for your dreams entrepreneurial or otherwise, listen to an episode or two.
Must Listen Episode: Radio One: Cathy Hughes
For Colored Nerds – This podcast is hosted by two friends (and fellow Howard University alums) who on each episode, offer up interesting and often humorous critiques of black pop culture, history, politics from two friends from a millennial perspective. They also occasionally just talk about life (the ups and downs) and have great guests that offer up engaging conversation to the podcast as well.
Must Listen Episodes: Episode #39 Auntie Chellie & Episode #38 Boomerang Revisited Revisited
The Friend Zone – This podcast hosted by three friends is a great mix of humor, advice, health, and wellness…with a dash of reality TV critiques thrown in. I enjoy listening to this podcast even when two of the hosts are dissecting a reality TV show that I don’t watch like the Real Housewives of Atlanta because they are so funny. I will warn you that these podcasts run long, but they are pretty engaging so give them a chance even if you don’t typically listen to podcasts that are over an hour long.
Must Listen Episode: Breaking the Code and Imposter Syndrome
Insecuritea: The Insecure Aftershow – If you are a fan of Issa Rae + her HBO show Insecure (and if you are reading this blog, I expect that you are), check out this podcast where each show episode is dissected by Hey Fran Hey of The Friend Zone and Crissle of The Read. (another good podcast btw). If you didn’t watch the show before season one ended, you have homework: Sign up for a trial of HBO Go, binge watch the whole season, and as you watch, “binge listen” to this podcast.
Must Listen Episode: Can’t choose one, binge the whole season!
Revisionist History – I’m a long admirer of Malcolm Gladwell’s writing and this podcast is just as thought provoking and well researched as his books are. Each episode covers a person or subject that previously happened that I knew little (if anything) about and delves into the topic from a different perspective.
Must Listen Episode: The Big Man Can’t Shoot
I’m always shifting around my podcast queue, so I’ll definitely do another round-up as my podcast listening list continues to evolve!
